Start With What’s Actually Wrong
Find the one that sounds like you. If none of them do, tell me on the call — that’s what it’s for.
?“My back is wrecked by 3pm every day”
Eight hours of sitting shortens your hip flexors and switches your glutes off. Your lower back then does the job your hips are supposed to do, all day, every day. It is almost never a back problem.
What we’d doWe get your hips moving and your glutes actually firing, then load the pattern properly with hinges and carries. Most people feel a difference inside three weeks. If it does not shift, that is when I send you to a physio instead of selling you more sessions.
?“I got winded playing with my kid”
That is not being unfit in general. That is having no aerobic base and no ability to repeat effort — two things that disappear fast once you stop playing sport and nobody replaces.
What we’d doShort intervals, sled work and stairs, built up gradually so you are not wrecked for two days afterwards. The goal is not a marathon. It is being able to go again forty seconds later.
?“I want my first muscle-up”
Almost everyone chasing one is missing the same two things: a real straight-arm pulling position, and the transition. They keep grinding at the finished movement and wonder why it never arrives.
What we’d doWe work the progressions in order — scapular control, high pulls, transition drills on low bar — and your shoulders get stronger on the way instead of angrier. This is what the Calisthenics & Skill sessions exist for.
?“My shoulder clicks every time I press”
Usually not damage. Usually a shoulder blade that is not moving with the arm, plus years of pressing in front and never pulling behind.
What we’d doWe stop pressing for a bit, build the upper back and the rotator work, then reintroduce pressing from a range that does not hurt. If it is genuinely painful and not just noisy, you see a doctor first and I will say so on the call.
?“I used to be fast. Now I’m not.”
You did not get slow with age. You stopped sprinting, and sprinting is the first thing to go when it is not being trained. Nobody accidentally sprints in adult life.
What we’d doSprint mechanics, jumps and plyometrics, loaded properly and reintroduced carefully, because a 35-year-old going flat out on a cold hamstring is how people end up injured. This is most of what I already do with myself.
?“I start every January and quit by February”
That is not a discipline problem. That is a programming problem plus a no-accountability problem. Week three is where almost everyone stops, and it is nearly always because nothing visible changed and nobody noticed they had gone quiet.
What we’d doSessions in the diary as a repeating block so it is not a decision every week. Progress tracked so you can see movement before you can see it in the mirror. And I notice when you go missing — that is a large part of what you are paying me for.

Written around your goals, your history, your schedule and the equipment you actually have. Not a template with your name at the top.

The Person You’d Be Training With
John Beaunissant
Four years ago I got hit on the driver’s side.
Bulging discs in my lower back and my neck. Ligament and cartilage damage in my knee. I couldn’t turn my head properly. Squats, deadlifts, running, anything explosive — gone. For a stretch there, the only things I could train were biceps and leg extensions.
If you’ve ever trained seriously you know what that does to a person. When people asked how I was doing I said I was fine. I wasn’t. I just knew exactly what I couldn’t do anymore.
I never thought it was permanent. I did know it was going to take a long time.
So I rebuilt from the outside in — the muscles around the injuries first, range of motion back a piece at a time, a lot of rotation work, a lot of neck work. Most of it hurt. And what I learned in that year is the thing I now use with everybody: your body compensates to protect what’s damaged. The tight hip, the shoulder that clicks, the back that goes at 3pm — that isn’t weakness. That’s a body guarding something.
It took about a year to get back to 85–90%. Even then, every time I went to do something explosive the thought showed up: what if I tear something and lose another six months. I rejected it and went anyway — with precautions.
That’s why I ask so many questions before I put a bar in your hands. And it’s why the first thing I rebuild usually isn’t strength. It’s the confidence you lost comparing yourself to who you were at 22.
You can get back to that, or close to it. You just have to be willing to do the work — carefully, and in the right order.
Ways to Train
Start HereFree Assessment
FreeA 20-minute call — on the phone or over video, whichever suits you. We talk goals, training history and any injuries, then I'll tell you honestly what I'd build for you.
Personal Training Session
$45No commitment. Custom workout, form coaching rep by rep, and progress notes every time. Good for drop-ins and first-timers.
Calisthenics & Skill Work
$50Muscle-ups, handstands, front and back levers. We work the progressions in order instead of grinding at the finished movement — which is why people get there faster, and with healthier shoulders.
Before your first session
Everyone signs a waiver and answers a few health questions — once, online, about five minutes. The health part is how I know what your body can take before I load it. You can do it now or right after you book.

Nobody tells you this before they take your money, so here it is.
Not five minutes on a treadmill. Whatever your shoulders, hips or back need that day, based on what your screening said.
The lift or the skill we’re building. Coached rep by rep, loaded to what you can do well today rather than what the plan says on paper.
The supporting work — and the boxing, sprint and jump work if that’s what you’re training for.
What went well, what we’re changing, what to do before next time. You leave knowing where you stand.

Where I Train People
I come to you — your gym, a park, or your garage. If you’re just outside that list, ask anyway; I’d rather say yes than have you assume.
Common Questions
I'm a total beginner. Is that a problem?
Not even a little. Most people I start with have never touched a barbell. We build from where you actually are, not where Instagram says you should be.
Where do sessions take place?
I'm based in Riverview and I travel out to Tampa, Brandon, Valrico, and Apollo Beach. Outdoor and park sessions are available for calisthenics work, and online coaching is open to anyone anywhere.
What should I bring to the first session?
Training clothes, shoes you can move in, water, and a rough sense of your goals. If you have a past injury or a doctor's restriction, bring those details — it changes how we program.
Do you handle nutrition too?
I'll give you practical guidance on eating to support your training. For clinical or medical nutrition needs I'll refer you to a registered dietitian.
I’m carrying an old injury. Can I still train?
Usually yes, and it’s the main reason the health screening exists. Tell me what happened and what still flares up and we program around it. If your answers suggest you need a doctor’s clearance first, I’ll say so before we train, not after.
I’m not fit enough to start yet.
That’s like cleaning the house before the cleaner arrives. There is no fitness level you need to reach before you’re allowed to begin — getting you there is the job.
How quickly will I see something change?
Strength and technique move first — most people notice within three to four weeks. Visible change takes longer and depends heavily on how you eat and sleep. I’d rather tell you that now than sell you a number I can’t control.
What if I need to pause a package?
Travel, illness, a bad month at work — it happens. We take those sessions out of the schedule and add them back at the end. What you paid for doesn’t expire because life did.
Can I split a package into payments?
Yes, on every package — just ask me and I'll set it up. A 4-week block splits in two, six weeks in three, and the 8 and 16-week blocks in four. No interest and no extra cost to you — you pay as you train.
Do I have to sign the waiver before booking?
No. Book first, sign before your first session. Doing it early just means we start training instead of doing paperwork.
How do I pay?
Either way you like. Tap a rate in the packages above to pay online now, or book the free assessment first and we'll work out what you actually need before you pay anything — no card required for that. Packages can be split into payments at no extra cost.
